Cloud Cookbook PWA with Browser Extension

Home cooks today draw inspiration from countless online sources, but managing recipes across bookmarks, Pinterest boards, and physical cookbooks is often fragmented and frustrating. We conceptualised and built Cloud Cookbook, a centralised, highly intelligent digital recipe box designed to streamline everything from meal discovery and grocery shopping to the actual cooking process.

The Challenge

Cooking from a smartphone or tablet usually involves two major friction points: the tedious process of manually typing out web recipes to save them, and the frustration of a device screen repeatedly going to sleep while the user has messy hands. The goal was to create a frictionless platform that not only aggregated recipes but actively assisted the user in the kitchen.

The Solution

We developed a feature-rich web application that seamlessly bridges the gap between digital inspiration and practical kitchen utility. Key features include:

• Frictionless Importing: Users can add recipes from any website using a custom browser extension or bookmarklet. The system automatically scrapes and populates vital recipe data, pulling in ingredients, methodology, prep/cook times, and high-quality images with a single click.
• Custom Recipe Management: Alongside web imports, users have the flexibility to manually add and format their own family heirloom recipes, keeping all their culinary data in one secure online storage hub.
• Intelligent Organisation & Search: A robust search engine allows users to easily organise and filter their collection using custom tags, keywords, or specific ingredients—perfect for deciding what to make based on what is currently in the fridge.
• Smart Shopping Lists: The application takes the friction out of meal prep by instantly generating aggregated, categorised shopping lists based on the ingredients of selected recipes.
• Dedicated 'Cook Along' Mode: To solve the "messy hands" problem, we engineered a distraction-free cooking interface. This mode prevents the device screen from sleeping and breaks the method down into large, timed panels, drastically reducing the need for users to scroll or interact with their phone while cooking.

Cloud Cookbook transforms the fragmented digital cooking experience into a streamlined, user-friendly journey. By automating data entry and solving real-world kitchen frustrations with the 'Cook Along' screen, the platform empowers users to spend less time managing their screens and more time enjoying the art of cooking.
